The Community — The Herd, Chat & Members
How to plug into Gary Club: the always-on Herd audio room, chat channels, DMs, and the member directory.
The community is the heart of Gary Club — and honestly, it's where most of the value is. The events teach you, the games are fun, but the people are the asset. Here's how to plug in. 🦒
The Herd — your always-on audio room
The Herd is a live, drop-in audio room that's open all the time — think of it like a 24/7 clubhouse. Members hop in to talk shop, ask questions, riff on ideas, or just work alongside each other.
Here's how it works:
- Just listening is fine. Most people start as a listener. Open the Herd, and you're in the room.
- Want to talk? Join the stage. Tap "Join the Stage" and your mic goes live. Tap again to step down. You're always muted when you first arrive.
- React without talking. Drop a 🔥, a 👏, or a 🦒 to join in without unmuting.
- Captions are on. Live captions run automatically, so you can follow along even with the sound off.
- Nothing is recorded. What's said in the Herd stays in the Herd.
Shy? Do this: open the Herd, listen for ten minutes, then drop a 🦒 reaction. That's it — you're officially part of the Herd. Talking comes naturally after that.
Chat — the daily conversation
Chat is the club's text community. It's organized into channels:
- The Lounge — the main hangout. Start here. Introduce yourself, share a win, ask a question.
- Topic channels — focused spaces for specific conversations and groups.
- Polls & announcements — important updates and community votes show up pinned to the top.
Your first move: head to the Lounge and say hi. Tell us what you do and what you're building. The Herd is famously welcoming — you'll get waves back fast.
DMs — private conversations
Want to talk to someone one-on-one? DMs are private direct messages between members. You can start a DM right from someone's profile in the member directory.
Members — meet the Herd
The Members directory is the club's "who's who." Browse everyone, see their badges, and start a DM with a tap.
Set up your own card first. Add a display name and an avatar so people recognize you. A blank profile is a missed connection — the members who fill theirs out get DM'd, invited, and remembered.
The 1-week challenge: introduce yourself in the Lounge, listen in the Herd once, and DM one member who's doing something you admire. Do that and you'll feel like a regular by Friday.
