The Herd: live audio room

The Herd at /dashboard/herd is the always-on live audio room for Gary Club members. Drop in any time. You will find it under Conversations in the portal menu.

How it works

• Open the page and you join as an audience member. Nobody hears your mic.
• Want to speak? Tap Join the stage. Until you do, you cannot be heard.
• On stage, tap the mic to toggle it. Tap Step down to go back to the audience.
• Closed captions are on by default. They show what is being said in English, without name labels, on purpose.

Permissions

• Open mic by default: any member can speak.
• Admins can lock the stage to require approval for new speakers.
• Auto-unlock applies if the stage empties and the lock was left on by accident.

Mobile tips

• If you put your phone in your pocket and audio drops for more than a few seconds, the room rejoins when you bring the tab back.
• Mute toggles avoid repeated microphone-permission prompts on iOS.

Recordings

The Herd is not recorded. If a session is going to be recorded for an event, an admin will say so explicitly and show a banner.
