The Herd — live audio room

The Herd at /dashboard/herd is the live audio room. Always on, holders only. Drop in any time.

How it works

• Open the page — you're an audience member by default. No noise from your mic.
• Want to speak? Tap Join the stage. Until you do, you can't be heard.
• On stage: tap mic to toggle. Tap Step down to go back to audience.
• Closed captions are auto-on. They show what's being said in English, no name labels (intentional).

Permissions

• Open mic by default — any holder can speak.
• Admins can lock the stage to require manual approval for new speakers.
• Auto-unlock kicks in if the stage empties and the lock was accidentally left on.

Mobile tips

• If you put your phone in your pocket and audio drops after 5+ seconds, we auto-rejoin when you bring the tab back.
• Mute toggles use disable-tracks mode — no microphone-permission notification spam on iOS.

Recordings

Privacy-first: The Herd is not recorded. If a session is going to be recorded for an event, an admin will say so explicitly + flip a banner.
